Though I had a great time with Satya Paul, we 'drifted apart': Masaba Gupta
It seems like only yesterday that Masaba Gupta was commended for being chosen the Creative Head for lifestyle brand Satya Paul. Gupta, who was 23 at the time, was the youngest person to occupy the coveted chair. Fast forward two years, and Gupta announces that as her contract with the brand comes to an end, she has chosen not to renew it.

What gives? Gupta told ETPanache that though she had a great time with the brand, they "drifted apart".

"It was a two-year contract. When my tenure was ending, I told them that I didn't see the need to continue," Gupta says. "They too felt I could have done better, perhaps. Nothing was coming out of it, honestly, so we mutually went our ways."

Asked if she had any regrets, Gupta says, "I wish I had taken more control of day-to-day activities. But you never know, I'll probably be back with a brand in the future, when I am better equipped to handle a big brand." Gupta, however, is too busy to let this development affect her.She is working on exclusive lines of clothing for Fiama di Wills shower gels and for ecommerce portals Myntra and Stylista, apart from designing collections for her own label. That is not all."I have a lot of associations with food companies, home decor brands in the pipeline," she says.

When contacted, Sanjay Kapoor, MD, Satya Paul said, "She infused freshness into the label and we are both very happy with the results."
