The dashboard shows all suspected and confirmed cases of coronavirus across geographies, along with data pertaining to patients who have died or made successful recoveries from the viral disease.
Researchers at Johns Hopkins University’s Centre for Systems Science and Engineering have launched a live dashboard that tracks the spread of the Coronavirus in real time. The online dashboard scrapes data from the websites of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the centres of disease control in China, India, U.S., and Europe.
It shows all suspected and confirmed cases of Coronavirus across geographies, along with data pertaining to patients who have died or made successful recoveries from the viral disease. The interactive map has been visualized using Graphic Information System (GIS) software powered by Esri, a digital land-use consultancy firm.
The first case of the Coronavirus was reported in Wuhan City, China, and has claimed 130 people in mainland China, and more than 6,000 people have been infected, according to a BBC report. Despite efforts by Chinese authorities to quarantine affected patients and contain the spread of the disease, cases have been reported in other continents including North America, Europe, and Australia.
The Coronavirus is not the first such disease to emanate from the hinterlands of China. Those infected with Coronavirus exhibit symptoms typical to viral diseases, like fever, cough, fatigue, and shortness of breath. The live dashboard has additional resources for raising awareness about the virus, sourced from the US Centre of Disease Control and Preventions, and the WHO.
The Coronavirus is not the first such disease to emanate from the hinterlands of China. It is similar to the SARS virus and the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS). Financial markets have started reacting adversely to news coming in from China.
