This 3-In-1 'ultimate laptop workstation' improves your posture

If there’s one ironic drawback to most laptops, it’s that you can’t use them directly on your lap for an extended amount of time. Without proper ventilation, they get too hot, which is bad for the computer and for you.

That’s where comes into play the BasePro, a so-called ‘‘ultimate laptop workstation’’ that’s currently raising money on IndieGogo. It offers three main uses in one package: an ergonomic stand, a backup hard drive and a USB port.

The BasePro might not win a beauty contest anytime soon, but it’s probably the best laptop stand we’ve tried, even though we didn’t really care for the extra storage features.

We used the workstation both on our desk and on our lap. We tried it sitting crosslegged and with our legs straight out — and no matter how we used it, we found we were sitting with improved posture. And we were able to type for longer periods of time. You may have used all sorts of solutions to keep the computer from burning your skin: Folders, books, magazines and pillows.

The BasePro is a surprisingly good fix for these issues. With its aluminum frame and rubber guides, it holds the laptop stable while keeping both the user and the laptop cool. You can buy the BasePro without the hard drive option — that’s $69. But if you want the built-in hard drive, the 1-terabyte model costs $119.

However, we don’t buy into all the extra features. It’s nice that you don’t need any additional power adapter to activate these extra features. So, if you don’t currently own an external hard drive and you don’t mind the wires, it’s a good buy
