The spirit of entrepreneurship runs deep in the 17-year-old Saina Sodhi.
Saina Sodhi is just 17 years old, a student of Millfield School in Somerset, UK. However, despite her young age, the spirit of entrepreneurship runs deep in her.

When TikTok started rising as an impactful social media platform, Sodhi felt the time was ripe for India to have its own TikTok-like phenomenon, one which would promote and showcase the voices emerging from its diverse culture, something that was lacking in TikTok, because of the vastness and the international nature of the app.

So, when the app was banned last year, she was further inspired to produce a homegrown version that can take its place and provide Indian youth with the kind of quality content they were missing. Accordingly, she founded her company, Saina Corporation, which launched its first product , the Theek Thaak app recently.

Theek Thaak aims to be a destination for short form mobile videos. It wants to promote Indian regional artists, to allow them a chance to showcase their creative expression worldwide.

The main features of the app include video editing and uploading tools, live streaming, reactions, social sharing, sounds, geo- location, Theek code scanner, etc, to be accessible to people across the country and overseas. Theek Thaak is available on every phone type, and it can be found on Apple and Android play stores.

In addition to that, Theek Thaak comes in multiple languages. The application is currently available for use in eight different dialects, but Sodhi wants to further expand its reach, and intends to introduce 12 more regional languages with an app update that is now imminent. She believes that doing so will help her reach more of her target audience.

“ We monetise Theek Thaak with advertisements and other sources, with which users can buy anything from filters to live - streaming stickers. There is also a subscription plan, which allows users to unlock premium features of the app. As social media apps get the newest features, I hope to keep up with those updates, so that Theek Thaak can also deliver in its entirety to the Indian audience. But to be at the same level as TikTok and other similar apps, Theek Thaak needs to be fuelled with funding. The newest version, planned for release in March, will have the most popular features of other social media apps as well, like Snapchat and Insta stories, Theekmojis etc,” Sodhi said.

“The virtual playing field comes with risks such as identity theft, cyber bullying, phishing and credit card theft, to name a few,” said Ritesh Chopra, Director, NortonLifeLock India.

It is important to explain to children why they should never share account information. The child’s account might contain valuable personal information and digital data. Plus, it might be tied to a credit card account. They should also understand that there are certain types of information that game companies would never ask for — such as bank account numbers or Social Security numbers.

Personally Identifiable Information (PII) is data that could potentially be used to identify a particular individual such as full name, age, email address, credit card number, and more.

Cyber criminals can sell this PII on the dark web or use it to commit identity theft. Have the child use fictional information like that of a favorite comic book hero or movie character. Or simply have them skip the profile-building process completely. Whatever you put in your profile might be publicly available; so, it is important to be careful, especially when it concerns children.
