What is The Vvaan about?

The movie's story is about Rishi (Sidharth Malhotra), an atheist who travels to his ancestral village in Bihar with his wife Mamta (Tamannaah Bhatia). Their visit coincides with the Chhath Puja celebrations and brings them face-to-face with the village's deep-rooted traditions.

The main plot point of the story is Dev Van, a sacred forest believed to be protected by Van Devi. The villagers follow a strict rule against entering the forest after sunset.

Rishi initially dismisses these beliefs as superstition but his decision to cross the forbidden boundary sets off a series of mysterious events.

Is The Vvaan inspired by a real temple?

The film draws inspiration from the folklore surrounding the 400-year-old Van Devi Temple near Bihta in Bihar, around 35 km from Patna.

The shrine is associated with the worship of Van Devi, regarded by devotees as the guardian of the forest. Unlike conventional temples, the goddess is worshipped in the form of a sacred stone pind. Local stories and traditions surrounding the shrine form the inspiration for the film's mythological mystery.
