The late Tardar Sauce — better known as Grumpy Cat, the face of many memes and campaigns — reportedly earned $100 million in her lifetime.
The power of social meowdia has certainly been underlined this month by the enthusiastic response to new photographs of Karl Lagerfeld’s cat Choupette taken by the late designer himself but posted only a year after his death. Felines are very popular on the internet and none more so than the noweight-year-old ‘Birman’ cat, whose role as Lagerfeld’s ultimate mewse in his last few years is well documented. Even life after Lagerfeld has been busy for Choupette as a model and influencer; she has nearly three lakh followers on Instagram, which needs a large staff, gourmet food and other expensive accoutrements. So, jealous catcalling notwithstanding, the significant sum the designer’s blue-eyed girl is expected to collar from his $200 million fortune will come in handy.
However, Choupette’s leap into the fat cat list — and, therefore, on to the bigger rich pet list — also highlights the emergence of furrtune management as a hot new genre. The late Tardar Sauce — better known as Grumpy Cat, the face of many memes and campaigns — reportedly earned $100 million in her lifetime. But the top dog in that list is Gunther IV the German Shepherd who inherited $375 million as a result of wise investment of the $106 million bequeathed to his father Gunther III by his owner. Obviously, experts are needed to ensure the best pawsible utilisation of such vast wealth.
