Makers have unveiled the first look of The Revolutionaries, an upcoming period drama that takes viewers into a lesser-known chapter of India's freedom struggle. Created and directed by filmmaker Nikkhil Advani, the series brings together Bhuvan Bam, Rohit Saraf, Pratibha Ranta and Gurfateh Pirzada in key roles. The story focuses on young revolutionaries who chose the path of resistance against British rule and explores the personal sacrifices behind their fight for independence.

The Revolutionaries OTT release date and platform

The Revolutionaries will premiere worldwide on September 11, 2026, exclusively on Prime Video. The series will be available across India as well as more than 240 countries and territories. It will stream in Hindi, with dubbed versions available in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Bengali. English and several international-language subtitles will also be offered.

The series is based on Sanjeev Sanyal's bestselling book, Revolutionaries: The Other Story Of How India Won Its Freedom. Rather than focusing only on the most familiar names from the independence movement, the show aims to bring attention to revolutionaries whose contributions have received comparatively less attention.

Advani has created and directed the series, approaching the historical material as a character-driven action drama. The story combines the political struggle of the period with the friendships, personal choices and sacrifices of the people involved.

Who plays whom in The Revolutionaries?

Bhuvan Bam takes on the role of Rash Behari Bose, one of the key figures associated with revolutionary activities against British rule. Rohit Saraf plays Sachindra Nath Sanyal, another prominent revolutionary who becomes part of the show's central story.

Pratibha Ranta plays Pratibha Lahiri, while Gurfateh Pirzada portrays Bagha Jatin. Together, the four characters form the core of the series as they attempt to build resistance against the British Empire.

The supporting cast features Jason Shah, Paoli Dam and Tota Roy Chowdhury in important roles. The makers have brought together a young ensemble with established actors to recreate the period and tell the story from multiple perspectives.

The narrative will explore more than the political side of the freedom movement. It will also look at the relationships between the revolutionaries, the risks they took and the difficult decisions that came with choosing rebellion. Themes of friendship, betrayal, courage and sacrifice are expected to remain central to the series.

Nikhil Madhok, Director and Head of SVOD Originals at Prime Video India, said the freedom struggle continues to offer stories of courage and sacrifice that deserve to be revisited. He explained that Sanyal's book gave the team an opportunity to bring several such lesser-known characters and events to a wider audience.

Madhok also described The Revolutionaries as an action-driven series centred on four young people determined to organise resistance against British rule across the country.

For Advani, one of the biggest attractions of the project was the opportunity to focus on heroes from the pre-independence period who are not as widely known. He said the series draws inspiration from real events and the stories documented in Sanyal's book, but has been developed as an emotional, character-focused action drama.

The filmmaker also opened up about the show's focus on rebellion, friendship, sacrifice and the meaning of freedom. This approach allows the historical setting to be explored through the personal journeys of its characters rather than treating the story purely as a retelling of historical events.

Produced by Monisha Advani and Madhu Bhojwani under the banner of Emmay Entertainment, The Revolutionaries has been written by Sanyuktha Chawla Shaikh, Akshita Wadhwana, Shobhit Narang and Rutvi Mehta. Stay tuned!
