Shah Rukh Khan needs no introduction. He is the King of Bollywood, and everything about him is king-size, including films and outfits. While audiences often marvel at the dazzling performances and thrilling plots, few realise that the costumes themselves sometimes come with jaw-dropping price tags that could fund the cost of luxury cars or even lavish weddings! Or just buying a house in Mumbai and Bangalore. Let's take an example of SRK's Ra.One.

Shah Rukh Khan's insanely expensive outfits for Ra.One

The sci-fi action film pushed the boundaries of Indian cinema not just with its special effects but also with its costumes. According to reports by Hindustan Times, SRK’s iconic robotic superhero costume, worn as the character G.One, cost a staggering Rs 4.5 crore per suit. And it’s not just one; the superstar wore 20 different versions of this million-dollar outfit for different stunt and scenes.

The total costume budget for just the superhero outfits in Ra.One reportedly reached close to Rs 100 crore. This alone nearly matches the budget of some entire Bollywood blockbusters. Top fashion designers such as Robert Lever, Manish Malhotra, Naresh Rohira, and Anaita Shroff lent their expertise.

Shah Rukh Khan himself has compared his Ra.One costumes to the iconic Spiderman suit, specialised outfits designed to fit the character’s needs rather than everyday wear. “You can’t wear them to parties,” he once said.

With an overall production budget around Rs 130 crore, Ra.One set new benchmarks in Bollywood for cost, scale, and it was one of the most expensive Hindi films ever made.
