In an age of climate consciousness, the individual carbon footprint matters. The rich and famous, with their sprawling mansions and decadent fuel-consuming toys, often face criticism for failing to do their bit in such a conversation.

However, billionaire wife Usha Mittal revealed in a recent interview that their new home in Surrey, London, among other things, is carbon negative.

While Mittal did not go into the specifics of the efforts being made to stay carbon negative, she did mention that the house, set in a 340-acre estate, is contemporary in design (unlike their family home in London, an early Victorian mansion). Mittal has commissioned artists like Peter Doig, Richard Long, Fahrlenissa Zeid and Raquib Shaw to create works for the new home.

In her own words, she “has a few walls to fill”.
