Ex-Yahoo CEO Scott Thompson claimed he had computer science and accounting degrees from Stonehill College in Easton, Massachusetts. However, as it turned out, he only had the accounting degree. Amid investigations and much mudslinging, Thompson quit as CEO of the struggling web giant in 2012 following an intense board meeting, after just six months at the helm. The company announced he would be replaced by Ross Levinsohn with immediate effect.

The current Textile Minister’s educational qualifications came under the scanner during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. In an affidavit for the polls, Irani had said she completed her BA in 1996 from DU(School of Correspondence), whereas in another affidavit of 11 July, 2011, to contest Rajya Sabha election from Gujarat, she had said her highest educational qualification was B.Com Part I from the School of Correspondence, DU. While a Delhi court quashed the case calling it a ploy to “needlessly harrass” Irani, the complainant also alleged that in another affidavit, Irani stated that she had completed Bachelor of Commerce Part-I from School of Open Learning, DU.

Eye health product-maker Bausch & Lomb’s now-retired CEO had said that he received a master’s degree in business administration from New York University. From 1972 to 1976, Zarrella attended the NYU business school as a night student while working for Bristol-Myers, but he left before graduating. However, the company didn’t mind it much: When it found out in 2002, it rescinded his $1.1 million bonus for the year, and let Zarrella keep his job. “I’m embarrassed that some of this incorrect information appeared in some of our published materials on my background,” said Zarrella in a statement.

In February 2015, a petition was filed in the Delhi High Court challenging the former New Delhi law minister’s declared university degrees. This was based on an RTI enquiry which stated that Avadh University had not awarded him a BSc degree. It was on the basis of that degree that Tomar had enrolled for his law degree course, and thus his law degree and enrolment with the Bar was invalid, forcing him to resign.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal defended Tomar, claiming that the “public trial” by the media was biased.

What inspired you to pursue your craft?
I have always found it fascinating to build meaningful connections between consumers and the brand. In today’s world, where product features could be comparable, it is up to the marketer to create an ‘emotional connect’ with the brand. I truly believe that story telling is key to luxury experiences. A product that embodies fine craftsmanship, precision and high quality successfully transitions into a sustained brand when there is an emotional connect complementing the aspirations of the consumer.

What does creativity mean to you?
For me, creativity is an expression, which is pure and meaningful. In creativity, what I enjoy most are the nuances of handcrafted imperfection.

What do you enjoy most about your craft?

I enjoy the art of meaningfully connecting consumers to authentic brand experiences, since each brand is unique and comes with a compelling story. As a brand strategist, my endeavour is to expressively bring this to life with care, conviction and connection. Fine craftsmanship, rich heritage and authentic storytelling are what legendary brands are built on and I have found immense fulfilment in bringing their stories alive in India.

Zoya and me…
I recently experienced the Zoya brand when my mother bought me a pair of unique earrings for my birthday from their Greek mythology collection.
