The Habit That Keeps Their Family Close: Victoria Beckham reveals the strict 6 pm family rule she and David follow every day
They are the first family of British football, but the Beckhams still abide by having dinner together as a family by 6:00 pm sharp. Victoria ensures that mealtimes are proper, quality time as a family without interruptions or distractions and has ...

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Victoria Beckham opened up on why the Beckham family still have dinner together. “I’m very lucky to have a job that doesn’t feel like a job; it’s my passion. So I love going to work. But with the kids, both I and David are really hands-on,” Beckham explained to the magazine. “Yes, I’m up early working out, but one of us will do the school run, and we always try to be home by dinnertime. We’re very strict about that when we’re in London—at 6 p.m. we are all together, eating dinner, talking about our days,” said the former Spice Girl.
In an appearance at a podcast – with Emma Grede – Victoria revealed the one rule her family follows during meals – no phones. Meal times are exclusively for family members to catch up with each other.
“We want the kids to be hard-working, kind... I think that I've always wanted to be the best mom that I could be and look after the kids, but I also feel that it's been part of my job to really help them fulfil their full potential and for them to recognise what their sense of purpose is," Beckham said.
Why A 6 PM Dinner Is Great For Your Health
Eating dinner very late in the evening might not be the best choice. Insulin sensitivity decreases in the evening, which makes it harder for the body to process glucose properly and causes blood sugar levels to remain high for a longer time. As the body starts to get ready for sleep, both metabolism and digestion begin to slow down.Eating a large meal right before sleeping can make your digestive system stay busy when your body needs to slow down. This might make it harder to fall asleep, stay asleep, and get good quality sleep. Late-night meals sometimes made people feel really full and uneasy, especially when they went straight from the table to bed. Eating too late left little time for any activity later on. Doing light exercise after eating can help your body digest food better and keep your blood sugar from going up too quickly, making it easier for your body to handle the food you've eaten.
