Kapil Sharma is bringing his comedy show back to Netflix, and this time the return is timed around the festive season. The Great Indian Kapil Show Season 5 has been officially announced, with Netflix confirming that the new season will premiere in September. The upcoming season will arrive after a six-month break and will continue the show's familiar combination of celebrity conversations, comedy acts, banter and Kapil Sharma's trademark humour.

The latest promo has also answered one of the questions fans had about the returning cast, with several familiar faces appearing alongside Kapil.

The fifth season of The Great Indian Kapil Show will start streaming on Netflix from September 26. New episodes will be released every Saturday at 8 pm.


The makers announced the date through a new promotional video shared on social media. The promo has a festive setup, with Kapil Sharma and the cast dressed in traditional outfits. It also plays around with the show's new festive positioning, with celebrations and different occasions forming part of the promotional theme.

Netflix shared the announcement with the caption, “Dhol, nagaada sab bajege, kyunki Hansi Ka TyoHAHAar ab Netflix pe sajega! Dekhiye The Great Indian Kapil Show, Season 5 from 26th September, raat 8 baje, only on Netflix.”

The season is being positioned as a celebration of laughter during the festive period, with the show expected to feature episodes around occasions including Diwali and Christmas.

Is Sunil Grover returning with Kapil Sharma?

Yes. Sunil Grover is part of the Season 5 cast shown in the new promo. His return is significant for viewers who have followed the show's changing cast across its different seasons.

Along with Grover, Krushna Abhishek and Kiku Sharda are also returning. Archana Puran Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu are part of the returning line-up as well. Rajiv Thakur has also been mentioned among the regular cast members for the upcoming season.

The promo brings the familiar team together, suggesting that the show will retain much of the group dynamic that audiences have seen in previous instalments.

Kapil Sharma on returning to the show

Kapil Sharma has said that the team itself continues to find new reasons to return despite having completed several seasons.

“Every season, we think we have done enough masti (fun), and then we realise that we are not done yet! And somewhere I feel that’s what keeps us going,” Kapil said.

The comedian also thanked viewers for their response to The Great Indian Kapil Show on Netflix and said the new season will focus heavily on the upcoming festive celebrations.


“We are extremely grateful for the love our audience, world over, has given The Great Indian Kapil Show on Netflix, and this time around we will be celebrating the upcoming festivities wholeheartedly… be it Diwali or Christmas. Bas lifafe Archana ji se duur rakhiye, baki hum Hasi ka Tyohaar to le kar aa hi rahe hain! (Just keep the gifts and envelopes away from Archana ji, we are coming soon with the festival of laughter.)”

The reference to Archana Puran Singh is in keeping with one of the show's recurring jokes, with Kapil once again adding his own humour to the announcement.

The new season will continue with the format viewers know, bringing Kapil together with celebrity guests and the show's comedy team. The festive timing means episodes are expected to include celebrations around major occasions, while the promo has already teased a mix of traditional festivities and other themes.
