The Drop: A Snowfall Saga ends with Wanda and Leon’s relationship in ruins
The two characters end the season on opposite sides of a bitter fallout. Wanda gets a chance to take control of Lamar and Artillery’s music, but her growing ambitions leave her isolated. Leon, meanwhile, is forced to confront the consequences of his own decisions. With their relationship in pieces and several storylines unresolved, the finale sets up an important question; will the FX series return for Season 2?
The Drop ending explained: Wanda takes on DG
Wanda’s problems begin when DG fires her from Macroscope and refuses to let her take Lamar Kinsey and Artillery with her. Unwilling to give up on the artists, she joins forces with Dara and comes up with a plan to steal their master recordings. Without the recordings, DG cannot release the album as planned, giving Wanda leverage to demand the artists’ release from their contracts.Lamar and his brother James are on the job, but soon the plan turns deadly. In one fight DG threatens Artillery by breaking a glass over Wanda’s head. Jenny Favarella cuts him off in response to his actions, putting his career in music at risk.
DG is not ready to admit defeat and sets his sights on Dara. Leon steps in when DG and his associate corner her in an alley, shooting the associate and handing DG over to the Crips. Although he manages to protect Dara, the incident pushes Leon further into the violence he has been trying to escape.
Why Wanda and Leon split up
Leon’s decision to intervene does not bring him and Wanda closer. He believes she deliberately pushed people into dangerous situations to get what she wanted, while Wanda questions why she should be blamed for the actions of DG and the others.Their disagreement comes to a head when Wanda visits Leon at his legal clinic. By now he has lost the peaceful space he had hoped to build for the community, and he sees Wanda as part of the reason his plans have fallen apart.
Wanda admits she doesn't want to be alone, but their conversation doesn't fix the damage. Leon picks up a gun before leaving the clinic. A photograph of Cissy Saint is left behind. The moment seems to imply that he’s going back to his old ways after all that he’s done to change his life.
Wanda is facing a different kind of loss. Lamar begins rebuilding his relationship with his brother James and the rest of his family after his brutal beating. When he invites Wanda to join them, she walks away instead. She is still dedicated to her musical career, but in the finale she is shown without the friends that used to support her.
Will The Drop: A Snowfall Saga have Season 2?
FX has neither confirmed nor cancelled The Drop: A Snowfall Saga Renewed for Season 2. There’s no announced premiere date or returning cast, so the fate of the show is uncertain. There are, however, several storylines that could continue. Leon's next move, Wanda's efforts to establish herself in the music business and the fallout from their separation all leave room for another season.
Creator Malcolm Spellman has also discussed plans to explore Wanda's family background. Speaking to The Culture Collective, he indicated that her parents could feature in a second season, saying, “So season two we got it, that’ll be her opportunity”.
Spellman has reportedly developed a three-season plan for the series, but that does not guarantee a renewal from FX. Until the network makes an announcement, Season 2 remains a possibility rather than a confirmed project.
