The sequel was released in theatres on May 1, 2026, nearly two decades after the original film, which hit cinemas in 2006 and went on to become a cult favourite.

Andy Sachs has moved on from Runway and built a successful career in journalism. However, after unexpectedly losing her newsroom job, she finds herself returning to the magazine as features editor. The decision is made without Miranda's approval, forcing the former boss and assistant to work together again despite their complicated past.

Things become even more difficult after the death of Elias-Clarke owner Irv Ravitz. A possible sale of Runway raises concerns that artificial intelligence could replace much of the magazine's staff. During Milan Fashion Week, Andy works to secure a buyer who will protect the publication and its employees. The effort also helps secure Miranda's long-awaited promotion, and the two eventually find common ground as Runway enters a new phase.
