The day Spielberg wore a bangle

He's taking his jewelry across the globe by expanding the brand to Hong Kong and New York by June, but Nirav Modi still counts his brush with Hollywood as a special memory. At the recent launch of another store in Mumbai, Modi told us of the time Steven Spielberg shot a video — not of sharks, extraterrestrials or dinosaurs, but of a diamond bangle.

Spielberg is counted among the celebrities that visited Modi’s lounge over the years, and the Hollywood big shot dropped by to pick up a bangle for his wife Kate Capshaw. "He was very humble and at one point, wore the bangles himself to see how they look," reminisces Modi. The Schindler’s List director then requested if he could take a video of the bangles to send to his wife, who was at a yoga retreat in New Delhi at the time. "My fi rst reaction to him asking to take a video on his iPhone was ‘Yeah, I think you’re pretty good at that,’" says Modi, laughing.

Spielberg aside, Modi also remembers Hollywood siren Sharon Stone visiting his jewelry lounge, to muse over solitaire rings. "She was keen on exploring all the statement pieces," he says. It takes one stone to know another.
