The Dancing Queen: 106-year-old Virginia McLaurin shakes a leg with Barack Obama!

On the occasion of the Black History Month, the White House has shared a touching video of an ecstatic 106-year-old Virginia McLaurin who fulfilled her dream of visiting the White House and meeting President Barack Obama & first Lady Michelle.

At 106, McLaurin's energy was infectious, so-much-so that the world's most powerful man could not help ask her about the 'secret behind such dancing moves at 106'. Michelle honestly expressed the yearning 'to be like McLaurin when she grows up'.

The super-senior citizen was overjoyed to visit the White House and meet the 'black president', a dream she doubted she would ever fulfill.



She lived her dream of 'celebrating black history' together & danced her way through it. The Obamas could not stop saying how 'glad they were to have her over'.


McLaurin was born in 1909 in South Carolina.

She had filed a White House petition in 2014 requesting to meet Obama and his family.

She had repeated her appeal through a YouTube video in December, 2014.



Throughout the month of February, the White House hosts events to celebrate the influence of African-Americans who have shaped the US over the years as part of the Black History Month.

A comment in the video posted by the White House on the event on their Facebook page, rightly reads: "She lived to see the two World Wars, the height of racial segregation and finally an elected black president."
