Biodynamic is definitely the mantra of these climate-conscious times — a step up from even organic on the sustainability scale. And this application in farming and food has already become the clarion call of the ecologically aware. The idea is to harness the ‘life force’ of the planet to achieve an ecologically ethical, preferably regenerative product. But now that the Paris conclave has highlighted the chances of all gas-based appliances — from jobs and ovens to boilers — becoming outlawed in the developed world in the next decade and a half, it does seem as though biodynamics is set for an expansion of its application. And if the order of the day will be using heat pumps to extract heat from the air or ground and harnessing wind and solar power to run kitchen appliances and utilities, drastic changes in lifestyles are certain.

In that context, there will be legitimate worries about whether using the washing machine for a full load will then have to wait for a medium-sized gale. And also whether largescale cooking will have to be timed with either a heatwave, a tsunami or a hurricane in order to crank up the stove or oven to requisite levels for the necessary time though the average sultry day would be enough to whip up daily meals. It would certainly bring a new meaning to the term ‘being in tune with nature’.…
