Directed and written by Akhil Sathyan, best known for Pachuvum Athbutha Vilakkum, Sarvam Maya tells an unusual love story with touches of humour and the supernatural. All you need to know about Preity Mukhundhan?
Preity Mukhundhan made her Malayalam debut earlier this year with Maine Pyar Kiya, where she starred opposite Hridhu Haroon. Though new to Malayalam cinema, she is not unfamiliar to audiences in the South. A Tamil actor by background, Preity first gained widespread fame through the viral Tamil music video Aasa Kooda, composed by Sai Abhyankkar. The song gave her instant visibility and helped her reach audiences beyond regional boundaries. Her film journey has spanned multiple industries in a short time. In 2024, she made her Telugu debut with Om Bheem Bush and appeared in the Tamil film Star, starring Kavin. She was also part of the Telugu period drama Kannappa, a project that drew attention for its star-studded guest appearances by Mohanlal, Prabhas and Akshay Kumar. Each project added to her growing presence as a versatile newcomer.
How Preity entered film industry?
What makes Preity’s story particularly interesting is her academic background. She is a graduate in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the prestigious National Institute of Technology (NIT), Tiruchirappalli. In an interview with TOI, Preity shared that her parents are doctors and have no connection to the media world. She explained that while her family valued education, they also recognised how deeply fulfilled she felt pursuing the arts, which led them to support her choices.Preity has also spoken about how performing arts were always a part of her life. She trained in dance from the age of four until her late teens, which, she believes, naturally drew her towards creative expression. Despite coming from what she described as an orthodox background, she said there was no major cultural shock when she entered the entertainment industry, as she had already been exposed to diverse people and experiences through academics and extracurricular activities.
Interestingly, acting was not her original plan. Speaking to Filmfare, Preity revealed that modelling came first and acting followed unexpectedly. She noted that modelling helped her understand herself better and gave her confidence, eventually opening doors to films. That transition, she said, played a crucial role in shaping her career path.
As Sarvam Maya continues its theatrical run, the film is all set to cross Rs 40 crore over the weekend. Till now, the Malayalam movie stands at Rs 35.15 crore in just eight days.
