Shashi Tharoor (L) feels an unnecessary premature declaration cost David Warner (R) a shot at the world record.
As Australia inched closer to a win over Pakistan in the second Test inside four days, Shashi Tharoor wonders if David Warner could have been given the chance to breach the 400-run mark.

The Thiruvananthapuram Congress MP believes that part of the pleasure of cricket is its records. And, he feels an unnecessary premature declaration cost the Aussie a shot at the world record.

In a series of tweets, the 63-year-old MP wrote, “David Warner scored 150+ in the 1st Test and followed it up with 335 not out in the 2nd. An unnecessary premature declaration cost him a shot at the world record. Pity. Part of the pleasure of cricket is its records.".

The also said that teams should go for a record when they can. "Figures and statistics continue to enthral the true aficionado. Cricket teams should go for records when they can. With the 1st Test in the bag and victory likely against a weak Pak side, why declare?,” Tharoor mentioned in another tweet on Monday.

Meanwhile, the 33-year-old cricketer's wife Candice took to Twitter to quote Mahatma Gandhi about strength and will, along with a picture of her husband.
