Tennis ace Sumit Nagal and his love for suits

Nagal likes suits in dark colours, isn't a fan of flashy ones.

Tennis players are known more for their athleisure sense of style rather than formal suits. But Sumit Nagal is happy to be an exception to this rule. “When I wear a suit, it is a different outfit, so it makes me go ‘wow’. I like looking in the mirror [when I’m wearing a suit],” he said.

Speaking about the kinds of suits he wears, he said he likes dark colours. “I am more into designer suits, and checks and stripes. But not too bright. I don’t like flashy ones that can be seen from a distance. Mine are more subtle, those which have designs, but you need to come closer to notice them. I also have a lot of plain ones,” he said.

But suits have been a new love for Nagal. The first time he recalls feeling good in a suit was in 2016, during the Davis Cup in Delhi. “I had a decent suit. I felt I looked very good. That was a time when not many people would notice me. But I was really happy with the way I looked,” he added.

Arjun Gadkari, President, Nilgai Foods

“For me, Steve McQueen had the greatest style. He always looked cool, no matter what the occasion. He looked effortlessly casual on a motorcycle in jeans and a tee, but when he got into a three-piece suit, he was sharper than James Bond. He defined the anti-hero look.”
