During an interview in 2015, the Swedish royal King Carl Gustaf revealed that he drives a hybrid electric car. The monarch, who is a big supporter of eco-friendly living, is often seen driving his Volvo XC60 T8 which runs both on petrol and electricity.

Whenever he is in Stockholm, the king says that his silver-grey car is always on electric mode.

Since 2012, the Danish heir Crown Prince Frederik has been driving a Fisker Karma, touted as the world’s first luxury plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. Prince Frederik has been seen in his silver car often at state as well as personal engagements.

While the vehicle runs on electricity as well as gas, Frederik, who is said to be very conscious about his carbon footprint, ensures that he always drives the car in electric mode.

For his wedding to Princess Charlene in 2011, the Monaco royal got himself a custom-made Landaulet Lexus LS 600h electric car. It is now part of his 120-strong collection of cars.

The luxury car had beige interiors and a custom midnight blue exterior. As the vehicle was a hybrid, much of the tour of Monaco that the couple took after the wedding was emission-free.

The Dutch King Willem-Alexander's Tesla Model X was first spotted in 2016 when he went to visit his mother at the hospital in Schiedam. Since then, he is often spotted charging the vehicle at charging stations.

The King’s dark grey Tesla has orange alloy gators and is spotted with the monarch at the wheel across the streets of Amsterdam. The King’s Model X is just one of 228 Model Xs in the country.

The mother of Spain’s King Felipe VI, Queen Sofia, showed-off her green credentials in a Peugeot iOn, a zero-emission electric vehicle with a battery life of 80 miles. She has been using it since 2010 and was first spotted in it during her Majorcan holiday.

The Spanish government has announced that it will get 2,000 green cars on the road by the end of the year.
