A techie's video on why he quit his job 10 years ago is going viral
A man walked away from a well-paying career in the technology sector—not to chase business ambitions or build a startup, but to take on a role that society rarely celebrates: managing his home full-time. The journey of Amit Kumar Dubey was brought into the spotlight by Humans of Bombay on Instagram, where his life choices sparked both admiration and reflection.

A Daily Routine Rooted in Care

His mornings begin in the kitchen, preparing tea and breakfast for the family, followed by packing lunchboxes for his wife and daughter. He ensures his child gets to school on time and later supports her with studies. His day revolves around maintaining the household, caring for his family, and creating a nurturing environment—responsibilities he has embraced wholeheartedly.

Early Lessons That Shaped Him

Raised in a village in Bihar, he grew up observing a rigid social pattern where men earned outside while women handled domestic duties. However, his upbringing differed in subtle yet powerful ways. As the eldest child, he often assisted his mother with chores. His father instilled a sense of accountability through simple practices, such as cleaning up after oneself. These early experiences quietly influenced his outlook, preparing him for decisions he would make years later.

A Relationship Built on Respect

In 2011, he met Preeti through mutual connections. Their conversations quickly built a strong bond. Learning about her life—how she had supported her family from a young age while balancing responsibilities and career—deeply impressed him. What began as affection gradually grew into profound respect. By 2013, both had established their professional paths—she in banking and he in engineering—and eventually married with their families’ approval.

A Life-Changing Decision

Over time, the strain of juggling work and responsibilities began affecting his wife’s health. Watching her struggle, he chose to prioritize her well-being and aspirations. In 2016, he made a bold move: he resigned from his job and took charge of running the household. Skills he had learned from his mother became part of his daily routine, allowing him to manage everything from cooking to organizing family life.

Facing Judgment and Standing Firm

His unconventional choice did not go unnoticed. Relatives and neighbors often mocked him, labeling him with derogatory terms and questioning his role. Despite the criticism, he remained resolute. For him, his partner’s happiness and stability mattered more than societal approval. He reassured her that she could focus on her career while he would manage everything at home.

Fatherhood and a New Perspective

In 2020, the couple welcomed their daughter, bringing new responsibilities and joy. He learned childcare from scratch—preparing meals for the baby, overseeing education, and even mastering small yet meaningful tasks like styling her hair. As his daughter grew and began attending school, he found time to explore creative pursuits, eventually sharing glimpses of his daily life online.

Redefining Roles and Recognition

When one of his videos gained widespread attention, he received overwhelming appreciation. Many praised him as an ideal partner, but the reaction also highlighted a deeper societal bias. Tasks routinely expected from women were suddenly applauded when performed by a man. This realization motivated him to challenge conventional thinking. He believes that contributing to household responsibilities is not an act of generosity but a shared duty. Though he stepped away from a corporate career, he considers his role as a devoted husband and father the most fulfilling work he has ever undertaken.
