The announcement of the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2025 results has filled Uttar Pradesh with pride, as numerous aspirants from the state successfully secured positions in the final merit list. Among the successful candidates, one name that has drawn particular attention is Piyush Kapoor, whose journey reflects determination and remarkable discipline. At 32 years old, Kapoor is employed as a staff software engineer at the global technology company Google. Despite managing the demands of a challenging professional role at the company’s headquarters in the United States, he succeeded in clearing one of India’s most competitive examinations.

Kapoor’s achievement is notable because balancing a demanding corporate career with preparation for such a rigorous exam is widely considered extremely difficult. Yet he demonstrated that consistent effort and careful time management can make seemingly impossible goals achievable. His success story has inspired many aspirants who believe that full-time employment can become a barrier to pursuing ambitious academic or career goals.

According to information available on his professional profile on LinkedIn, Kapoor has spent nearly ten years working at Google, building a career in the technology sector. His academic background also reflects strong foundations in engineering and computer science. He completed a Bachelor of Technology degree in Computer Science from Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi, one of the country’s well-known engineering institutions.


While explaining the motivation behind his decision to attempt the civil services examination, Kapoor told Hindustan Times that his experience in the corporate environment gradually made him realise that his abilities could be utilised in a broader way for public welfare. His interest in contributing directly to society encouraged him to take on the demanding challenge of preparing for the UPSC examination.

Family encouragement also played a meaningful role in shaping his aspirations. His father previously served as an officer at the State Bank of India before retiring, while his mother offered constant support during his preparation journey. Their encouragement strengthened his determination to pursue the goal.

Kapoor also described how he structured his preparation alongside his professional responsibilities. During weekdays, after completing his duties at Google, he dedicated around two hours to focused study. On weekends, however, he significantly increased his preparation time, often studying for nearly thirteen to fourteen hours each day. This disciplined routine eventually helped him secure the 402nd rank in the highly competitive UPSC Civil Services Examination.
