A techie recently revealed how hustle culture didn't make him successful
At a time when relentless productivity is often celebrated and social media is flooded with posts praising late nights and endless work hours, a software professional shared a sobering account of how this mindset quietly dismantled his health. Writing on the Developers India subreddit, the engineer described how the pressure to constantly prove his worth slowly took a severe physical and mental toll.

He began his career with optimism after securing a campus placement in a data science position. However, frequent layoffs within the organization created a climate of fear and insecurity. To avoid becoming expendable, he pushed himself to work more than twelve hours a day, sacrificing rest and personal time. The pressure was unrelenting, and despite months of extreme effort, he was eventually let go after just four months.

Hoping for stability, he later joined a product-based company as an intern. Unfortunately, the environment mirrored his previous experience. The workload was intense, expectations were high, and the unspoken promise of a permanent role kept him overworking himself. He poured in all his energy, believing dedication would secure his future. Once again, that hope did not materialize.

By this stage, the consequences had already set in. Prolonged stress led to persistent exhaustion, elevated blood pressure, and a body that no longer felt normal. After medical evaluations ruled out other causes, doctors diagnosed him with hypertension. He was advised to begin blood pressure medication, possibly as a long-term necessity.

He clarified that his intention was not to accuse organizations or point fingers. Instead, he wanted to caution others against glorifying self-neglect in the name of ambition. According to him, working harder does not ensure stability, but ignoring physical warning signs almost always leads to damage.

He urged readers to reconsider lifestyles built on caffeine dependence, salty processed foods, inadequate sleep, and the belief that health can be fixed later. In his view, no role, internship, or verbal assurance is worth lifelong medical consequences. Health, he stressed, must be prioritized before the body enforces its own limits.

During a routine eye examination, doctors detected retinal changes caused by sustained high blood pressure, a condition known as hypertensive retinopathy. This discovery served as his first undeniable alarm. Regular monitoring afterward revealed consistently alarming readings, reinforcing the seriousness of his condition.

The post sparked widespread resonance. Several users shared similar experiences, recounting anxiety disorders, panic attacks, elevated heart rates, and dependence on long-term medication triggered by intense work pressure at a young age. Many echoed the same realization: professional success means little when achieved at the cost of lasting health.
