Tasting success! ETPanache Trendsetter Awards was a grand culinary affair
The menu on the night of the ETPanache Trendsetter Awards was just like the guest list — richly diverse, extravagantly exotic and curated with care.

"Would you like to have dinner, Irrfan?" a host asked the actor Irrfan Khan as he took a smoke break at the ETPanache Trendsetter Awards at the Trident, Nariman Point.

"This has enough calories," Irrfan said, pointing to his drink. The wiry actor, like most guests, ate light. But he was among the many who enjoyed the variety on the menu.

The food was vegetarian yet international, including cuisines such as Pan-Asian, Indian, Spanish, Italian and Middle Eastern. During the ceremony, Atul Nishar, the founder of Hexaware Technologies, helped himself to Pepperonata-filled cucumber barquettes. Fashion entrepreneur Pernia Qureshi snacked on olive oil roasted nuts with sea salt. Actors Dino Morea and Zayed Khan were spotted at the bar, munching on Gruyere and Cheddar skewers.

Arunabh Kumar wasn’t drinking, but seemed to like his food. The TVF founder relished avocado and cream cheese maki rolls. Billionaire brothers Bhavin and Divyank Turakhia had baked mushrooms with Grana Padano and celery gremolata. After the presentations, Viswanathan Anand, who calls himself a foodie, and Punit Chokhani headed for the laksa counter.

The dessert counter groaned with a rich Sao Thome-spiced chocolate choux, maccha bruleé, candied ginger bavaroise, vanilla anglaise, maracuija cheesecake and the 180 degrees duet of milk cake and rabdi brandade.

Earlier, a clutch of luxury sedans and UberBlacks headed to the Trident. And yes, the bar was raised. Literally. For the after-party, the stage became the bar.

The guests lit up the red carpet with their style, the bartenders showed off their flaring skills, and others let loose at the flipboard station. The host for the evening, the lovely Sarah-Jane Dias, dazzled on stage in a slinky red and gold Swapnil Shinde gown.

The stage in the Regal Room was as trendsetting as the winners. It had a brickwork backdrop, a 50 x 15 feet LED wall and a bar set up. The entertainment for the evening took the fun up a notch. The duo of the saxophonist Rhys Sebastian and singer Shalmali Kholgade set the tone with a performance of the tracks Havana by Kenny G, Fever by Elvis Presley and a jazz-infused version of Ina Meena Dika. At halftime, Shiamak Davar’s troupe set pulses racing when dancers descended from the stage and shook it off amidst the crowd to All That Jazz, Roxy and Burlesque.

As the sun went down on the main event (and the full LED wall), guests took to the stage, which was converted to a bar, to grab a drink; others headed to the flip book booth to take their own trendsetting pictures.
