Tanmay Bhat shuts down critics over weight loss medication debate
Comedian and content creator Tanmay Bhat has addressed the chatter around his dramatic weight loss after social media users began questioning whether his transformation was driven by GLP-1 drugs. The discussion picked up after he spoke openly about experimenting with the medication category that includes brands like Ozempic and Mounjaro.

What followed was a mix of curiosity, advice, and criticism. Some people suggested he should stick to “natural” methods instead of trying medication. Tanmay, however, made it clear that he does not owe anyone an explanation — but still chose to give one.

‘I Know What I’m Doing’

After users began offering unsolicited advice, Tanmay responded directly. He wrote, “Chill yaar, I’ve lost over 75 kilos without touching a single GLP-1 injection. But I like all new health tech and I am dabbling with GLP1s to see how I feel about it. I workout, I eat well, I have consistent blood works for the last 5 years. I have great guidance, I know what I’m doing. Spare me moral lecture pls.”

His response was calm but firm. He pointed out that his weight loss journey did not begin with medication. In fact, he says he had already lost more than 75 kilos without using any GLP-1 injections. For him, trying the drug now is more about curiosity and understanding how new health technology works on his own body.

When another user claimed that using GLP-1 might “dilute” his earlier efforts, Tanmay replied, “What’s to dilute. I’m trying things to see what I like and don’t like. I like new tech.”

No Appetite Suppression

Interestingly, Tanmay also shared that the medication did not have the expected impact on him. GLP-1 drugs are generally known to suppress appetite, but he said he experienced “zero appetite suppression.”

Trying to understand why, he looked deeper into his health data. According to him, his gene report showed “a BDNF gene variant that is prone to weakened satiety signalling.” In simple terms, this means his brain may not receive strong signals about fullness, even when he has eaten enough. So the usual appetite-curbing effect did not show up in his case.

This is not the first time Tanmay’s physical transformation has made headlines. Back in 2017, podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia had spoken about how Tanmay lost 110 kilos. More recently, in 2024, fitness coach Abhi Rajput shared that the comedian had dropped around 50 kilos through disciplined eating and regular workouts.
