Tamil TV actor and anchor Ananda Kannan passes away at 48; tributes pour in on Twitter

Tamil TV anchor-turned-actor Ananda Kannan, who is known for his work in the TV industry and gained recognition as an anchor in the 1990s and early 2000, died due to cancer on Monday. He was 48.

As soon as the news about his passing broke out, several South celebrities remembered Kanna and paid trobute to the late star on Twitter. Film-maker Venkat Prabhu, who worked with Kannan in Tamil film 'Saroja', shared the news of his death on the microblogging site. "A great friend, a great human is no more!"



Gayathri Raguramm, actor-turned-politician, was shocked to hear about Kannan's demise and expressed his condolences. "Gone too soon. My condolences to his family and friends. He smiled always and he made others laugh and smile," she tweeted.


Harathi, actress and TV host, called Ananda Kanna "darling brother" and condoled his death by sharing two pictures on Twitter. "#RIPanandakannan darling brother too early to leave. A pure soul with very positive mind. May god give strength to your family," she wrote.


TV anchor DD Neelakandan also paid tribute to the late actor. "Rest in peace … Forever u will be remembered for ur sweet smile and kind words …. #RIPanandakannan you fought your battle hard …. A very nice person gone too soon," she wrote.


Ananda Kannan started his career in Singapore before shifting to Chennai and working in a radio station. He eventually started hosting television shows and became a household name in Tamil showbiz.

Many other celebrities took to social media to mourn the loss including actor RK Suresh, RJ Keerthy amongst others.


Ananda Kannan was also part of films such as 'Adhisaya Ulagam', 'Mullum Malarum' and more.
