Be it the boardroom or the sporting arena, a front row seat is a coveted possession. Parth Jindal, MD of JSW Cement is the proud custodian of both, having set up JSW Sport in 2012 to raise the image of the $13-billion conglomerate.

A sports fan, Jindal crisscrossed the UK to support his favourite football team, Arsenal, on their travels during his college years. He is now a fixture at venues where teams owned by the group compete. JSW Sport has stakes in Bengaluru FC, IPL franchise Delhi Capitals, and kabaddi team Haryana Steelers.

Jindal, who drafted the blueprint for JSW Sport after consulting industry veterans like tennis player-turned-entrepreneur Mahesh Bhupathi, is of the opinion that teams should invest in building infrastructure to enhance their topline. “Today, all stadiums are governmentowned and there is no incentive for them to maximise the potential of their assets,” he said in a magazine interview recently. The 29-year-old added that franchises could augment their finances by leasing out stadiums.

Jindal is targeting an IPO circa 2024-25 for JSW Sport, a move that would make it India’s first sports company to be listed on the bourses.
