History was made at Eden Gardens, on Friday, as the Indian cricket team played its first day-night Test match, against Bangladesh. The event was attended by the who’s who from the world of politics and sports including Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina to master blaster Sachin Tendulkar.

However, the moment that everyone is talking about is Rohit Sharma’s glorious one-hand catch which dismissed Bangladesh’s Test captain Mominul Haque in the 11th over. As Haque hit the ball, Indian skipper Virat Kohli, and Sharma both ran to catch the pink ball.

However, Sharma managed to steal the catch. The moment went viral on social media instantly and sparked a meme fest on Twitter.


A Twitter user posted a major throwback to the 2011 World Cup.

While another user made a hilarious meme that doubled up as a political satire.

India played its first-ever Day-Night Test match at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens, opposite Bangladesh.This format of the game sees the teams play under floodlights, using a pink ball in place of the regular red.

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina, BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly were joined by former Team India players including Sachin Tendulkar, Anil Kumble, Kapil Dev among others in the City of Joy to watch cricket history being made. Tennis ace Sania Mirza, badminton champion PV Sindhu, and boxing legend Mary Kom also joined the cricketers in the stands.

Tendulkar and Ganguly both opted for blue blazers, but added a dash of pink - to mark the monumental occasion. While the master blaster paired his blazer with a pink shirt, the Bengal Tiger sported a pocket square in the same hue.
