Taapsee Pannu’s 1907 Danish home has vintage chandeliers, Indian art and one very desi touch. A look into the actress and her husband, Mathias Boe's Denmark residence

It is natural to expect that a celebrity’s house, especially outside India, must be very sophisticated and may feature contemporary interior designs. However, for actress Taapsee Pannu, her Denmark home is a vintage house built in 1907 that has been restored by infusing both Danish and Indian touches into it. The actress and her husband, Mathias Boe, chose to preserve the Danish house’s history instead of stripping it away. It has decades-old furniture, classic, vintage chandeliers, paintings by Indian artists and a few art pieces collected during the couple’s travels, bringing their two very different worlds together. In an interview, Taapsee Pannu shared one of the most distinctly Indian features she has added to her Danish house, and it is not an object.

Taapsee and Danish badminton player Mathias Boe were working on the interiors of their large, vintage Danish abode, which dates back to around 1907. Instead of replacing everything with new furniture, the couple wanted to retain its vintage feel and original character. In an interview with Hindustan Times, the Pink actress shared that there was a lot of history associated with the house and that the couple wanted to restore as much of it as they could.

Vintage lamps and chandeliers

The home’s existing décor has a vintage charm to it. The actress has inherited vintage lamps, furniture, paintings and chandeliers that fit aesthetically into the old house, as reported by Moneycontrol. The couple had asked the previous owners if they could retain some of the furnishings, allowing them to create a naturally fitting aesthetic for the house.

This approach was also practical because the actress pointed out that living in Denmark is expensive, as is transporting and storing furniture.

Indian art meets Danish interiors

While the foundation of the house is Danish, the actress has added a bit of her own Indianness to it. As per Hindustan Times, the actress has added paintings by Indian artists and a few collections gathered during the couple’s travels.

They have also added a staircase and bathrooms while restoring the house. The actress shared that her husband has left decisions regarding the interiors to Taapsee and his parents. Mathias’s father, a former architect, has also been helping the couple with the décor of the vintage house.

The most Indian thing that Taapsee brought into the house

One might expect the most Indian element in Taapsee Pannu’s Danish residence to be an object, piece of furniture or painting. However, it is family living. As per Hindustan Times, Mathias Boe’s parents live with the couple but have their own separate space on the ground floor, which includes a bedroom, living room, dining area and lounge. Taapsee said this was “the most Indian thing I brought into the house.”

Parents living with their children is not as common an arrangement in Danish culture, so convincing his parents to move in with them took some effort and time for the actress. The decision was deeply connected to the idea of home. Since the couple travel frequently, Taapsee wanted someone to come home to, adding that it gives the house a genuine feeling of being home.
