Taapsee Pannu's 'Dobaaraa' performs better than 'Shabaash Mithu' at box-office, Day 1 collection at Rs 72 lakh

According to film trade analyst Taran Adarsh, 'DoBaaraa' has performed better than Pannu's last film 'Shabaash Mithu' which was based on the life and career of former Indian cricketer Mithali Raj.
The movie critic said that the movie picked up at select premium multiplexes around the evening and night shows, and managed to collect Rs 72 lakh from 370 screens on the opening day. "'DoBaaraa' opens to better numbers than expected," he added.
The weekend collection remains critical for the movie.

She said she realised how she missed the joy of making a 'good film in the garb of box office success', thanks to the 'immense love' the movie got from its pre-releasing screenings.
"Here's a note from the makers who had the courage to stand by a film like 'Dobaaraa' and make sure it releases in theatres, a film that doesn't undermine the intelligence of the audience," her caption read.
The actress said that she will celebrate that they could create a film at a time when 'playing safe is the only option for survival'. "We know we made a film we are proud of, I hope you give us a chance," she wrote.

'Dobaaraa' marks Kashyap and Pannu's third collaboration after the 2018 hit 'Manmarziyaan', which also starred Abhishek Bachchan and Vicky Kaushal, and the biographical drama 'Saand Ki Aankh' (2019), on which he served as producer.
Besides Pannu, the movie features Pavail Gulati in the lead role. The film is an official Hindi adaptation of a Spanish thriller film 'Mirage'.
The movie is jointly produced by Ektaa Kapoor's Cult Movies, a new division under Balaji Telefilms, and Sunir Kheterpal and Gaurav Bose's banner Athena.
