Taapsee Pannu reveals truth about hush-hush wedding to badminton star Mathias Boe, if she was ‘scared’: ‘It feels…'

Taapsee Pannu did not have a big, fat Bollywood wedding with her fiancé, Danish badminton player Mathias Boe. The two got hitched in an intimate ceremony in Udaipur, where only family and close friends were in attendance. She kept the wedding entirely hush-hush and did not release wedding pictures or videos. In a chat with Nayandeep Rakshit, the Haseen Dilruba star explained why she opted for a low-key, very un-Bollywood-like wedding. She explained this was just an attempt to keep her professional and private lives separate.

“Why should I have a public announcement? I’ve always kept my personal and professional lives apart. Not that I want to hide them or am scared or embarrassed of them. But I’ve refrained from making announcements. I think it’s personal, and I’d want to keep it like that. It feels very weird to put out a press note or a deck of photos and videos,” she said.

The actress explained that pictures and videos from her big day were shared among guests, but they were asked not to share them on social media, which they respected.


Despite her efforts to maintain privacy, her bridal entry and some parts of the varmala ceremony were leaked online in April 2024. In the video, Taapsee was seen in a quintessential red outfit, while the groom wore an ivory sherwani. “That was very embarrassing. But that happens with people who are not invited by you but by your family. Your family wants them to be there, but you maybe don’t know them enough. Some of them didn’t understand the basic brief given to them,” she said.

Taapsee explained that her choice to keep her wedding pictures and videos away from the public was partly motivated by her wish to protect her husband, Mathias, from the intense scrutiny she regularly experiences. She pointed out that sharing such content would not concern only her but would also bring attention to her husband, who does not have the same level of public visibility as she does. Although Mathias is a sports personality, Taapsee noted that there is generally less public fascination with athletes’ personal lives, particularly in this part of the world and within his sport. As a result, he is not accustomed to the degree of attention and examination that she has learned to handle.

Taapsee further said that making their wedding moments public could also expose their guests to unwanted attention. She explained that once a photograph is shared, the people appearing in it could also become subjects of public discussion and scrutiny, regardless of whether the attention is positive or negative. Since those guests had not chosen a life in the public eye, she felt it would be unfair to place them in such a situation simply because they attended her wedding. Unlike them, Taapsee said she had knowingly accepted the level of public attention that comes with being a celebrity.

The pair had been together since 2013.

Taapsee was last seen in the action thriller Gandhari. The movie premiered on Netflix in September.
