Sushant Singh Rajput death: Rhea Chakraborty, Bihar govt file submissions in SC

In a new development in the Sushant Singh Rajput case, on Thursday morning, Rhea Chakraborty and Bihar government filed their written submissions in the apex court. Seeking the dismissal of Chakraborty's petition, the Bihar government, according to a report in the news agency PTI, in its written submissions filed through advocate Keshav Mohan, said, "No impediment would deserve to be allowed to come in the way of CBI to undertake and complete the investigation expeditiously."

In her written submission, Chakraborty said the transfer of the probe to the Centreal Bureau of Investigation (CBI) at the behest of the Bihar police was without jurisdiction.

The Bihar government, in its submission filed through its lawyer Keshav Mohan, said: "It is apparent that it is on account of political pressure in the State of Maharashtra that neither the FIR has been registered by the Mumbai Police nor did they extend any cooperation to Bihar Police in discharging their obligation to conduct investigation expeditiously."


The submission, settled by senior advocate Mainder Singh, said that nothing further is called for in the present Transfer Petition of Rhea and it deserved to be rejected or disposed of.

"In the facts and circumstances of the present case, it is humbly submitted that no impediment would deserve to be allowed to come in the way of CBI to undertake and complete the investigation expeditiously," the Bihar government said.


The development comes after the apex court heard the arguments and counter-arguments of both of the counsels in an intense court hearing on Tuesday and reserved its verdict, asking counsels to submit their notes on Thursday.

On Tuesday, the hearing began with Rajput's rumoured girlfriend, Chakraborty, claiming through her counsel that she is being victimised. "I was in love with Sushant. I was traumatised after his death. But I am being victimised now," Rhea's counsel argued in court.

Shyam Divan, Rhea Chakraborty's counsel in the SC, then alleged that there's political influence behind the FIR filed in Bihar. Bihar counsel responded to Rhea's counsel, saying, "There is clear political pressure in Maharashtra. Political pressure is not there in Bihar but in Maharashtra."

SC then asked Rhea's counsel, why shouldn't the CBI investigate the case now. To this, Rhea's counsel argued that they are fine with the CBI probe, but opposed to the manner in which the probe was transferred. Meanwhile, the lawyer of Rajput's family, Vikas Singh, alleged that the Mumbai Police is 'deviating & diverting from the main issue'.

Chakraborty had filed the plea in Supreme Court on July 30, a day after Rajput's father had filed an FIR in Patna police station against Chakraborty and five other individuals under IPC Section 306 (Abetment of suicide), Sec 341 (Punishment for wrongful restraint), Sec 342 (Punishment for wrongful confinement), Sec 380 (Theft in dwelling house), Sec 406 (Punishment for criminal breach of trust), and Sec 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property).

On Monday, Chakraborty had approached the Supreme Court and filed another plea against what she called an 'unfair media trial'. In her affidavit, Chakraborty had alleged that the media had 'blown out of proportions', the investigation into Rajput's death.

The SC is yet to hear Chakraborty's second plea.
