Nepometer will provide ratings to films based on how ‘nepotistic’ or ‘independent’ the film crew is.
The tragic demise of Bollywood star Sushant Singh Rajput has reignited a social media debate on nepotism. However, in a new development, Rajput’s brother-in-law, Vishal Kirti, has started a service called ‘Nepometer’.

On Friday, Kirti took to Twitter in order to clarify the purpose of the service. He said that the service is meant to be a tribute to the ‘Kedarnath’ actor and is a ‘not for profit, voluntary effort’. He asked the fans to stay patient since the service is not their ‘1st priority’.

“I shared my brother’s idea of Nepometer because it enables people to make informed choices,” wrote Kirti.

Nepometer will provide ratings to films based on how ‘nepotistic’ or ‘independent’ the film crew is. The higher the ‘Nepometer’, the more nepotistic the crew of the film is likely to be. Kirti announced the service on June 25 on Twitter, writing that the service has been created in memory of Rajput.

So far, the ‘Nepometer’ has given a rating of 98% to Alia Bhatt’s ‘Sadak 2’ which means the film is highly nepotistic. The rating was based on 5 categories - Producer, Lead Artists, Supporting Artists, Director & Writer. ‘4 out of 5 categories have Bollywood Family members,’ the tweet read.

Post Rajput’s demise, the conversation around nepotism in Bollywood has gained momentum.

Known for films like 'MS Dhoni: The Untold Story' and 'Kedarnath', Rajput was found hanging at his Bandra home on June 14. Initial reports suggested that the actor had allegedly died of suicide. No suicide note was found in Rajput’s apartment. His post-mortem report said that he had died of asphyxiation.

The actor was cremated at the Vile Parle crematorium on June 15.

Clarification: The earlier version of this copy erroneously mentioned Pawan Hans crematorium. Pawan Hans Limited has clarified that Pawan Hans is their registered Trademark and it has nothing to do with the Vile Parle crematorium.
