Tablet PCs have been Apple’s domain for a while now with iPad being the preferred choice for many. Microsoft’s answer to the iPad has been the Surface 2-in-1 device and the company recently got its Surface Pro 7 to India.
The new Surface Pro comes with a keyboard cover and a stylus pen — but both have to be purchased separately. The Surface Pro 7 has an elegant, minimalistic design with an aluminium unibody chassis. There’s the kickstand, which is quite smooth and flexible. This is an extremely light and easy to carry around device and will certainly appeal to those who don’t want to lug around bulky laptops anymore.
The Surface Pro 7 has a 12.3-inch QHD display which performs really well. The colours are vibrant and image reproduction is quite accurate. Microsoft has got the design and display bits spot on with the Surface Pro 7. The keyboard is easy to use and the trackpad is really responsive as well.

There’s the Iris Pro under the hood which isn’t good enough for hardcore gaming but gets the job done. Overall, Intel’s processors ensure that routine tasks are handled with utmost ease by the Surface Pro 7, thanks to the 16GB RAM onboard. The Surface Pro 7 also comes in 4GB and 8GB RAM variants.

The cameras — both front and rear — on the Surface Pro 7 are a bit dated. There’s an 8MP rear camera and 5MP front camera. Of course, it can be argued that most people do not use tablets to click photos. But a better spec sheet on the camera would’ve given the Surface a favourable tilt.
Another thing that could also have been better on the Surface Pro 7 are the speakers. There are two 1.6W speakers at the front, which are good enough for personal use. But our advice would be to pair a set of headphones to really enjoy watching content on it.
Surface Pro 7 isn’t really for those looking at affordable tablets. With the stylus and the pen, the entry-level variant will set you back by close to Rs 90,000. It is a solid alternative to those who don’t want an iPad. It does everything that a tablet should do and doubles up as a really efficient laptop. Yes, it is pricey but sometimes you’ve to pay a premium for a superior product, especially as the Surface remains the best Windows-based tablet you can buy.
