Ameesha Patel has recently opened up about a lesser-known chapter of her personal life, revealing her family’s deep-rooted connection with Indira Gandhi. Known for her blockbuster debut in Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai (2000) and her role in Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001), the actress made a strong comeback with Gadar 2 in 2023. In a recent interview, she shared how Indira Gandhi played a key role in her parents’ marriage.

Speaking about her family background, Ameesha revealed that her association with the Gandhi family goes back even before she was born. She recalled that when she was born at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai, Indira Gandhi was among the first people to visit her. The actor described while talking about the close bond her family shared with the India's first and only female Prime Minister.



A major part of this connection comes from her grandfather, Rajni Patel. Ameesha described him as a well-known barrister who later became actively involved in politics. According to her, Rajni Patel shared a long-standing association with Jawaharlal Nehru, whom he regarded as a mentor from a young age. Over time, he became a prominent figure within the Congress party and worked closely with Indira Gandhi.

Elaborating on his role, Ameesha told Bollywood Bubble, her grandfather was not just a party member but also a trusted advisor to Indira Gandhi. She explained that he held important positions, including serving as treasurer and even president within the party. His influence was such that major decisions were often discussed with him. This close professional relationship naturally extended into a personal bond between the two families.

How Indira Gandhi helped in Ameesha Patel's parents wedding

One of the most surprising revelations from Ameesha’s conversation was about her parents’ wedding. She shared that the wedding date was finalised based on Indira Gandhi’s availability. Since her parents’ horoscopes did not align, the family sought guidance from the then Prime Minister.

Ameesha explained, "Indira Gandhi fixed the wedding date of my parents as well. Their horoscopes didn’t match, so she was asked when she was available, and based on her dates, my parents’ wedding day was finalised."


Ameesha also spoke about another legacy of her grandfather, the creation of the Nehru Planetarium in Mumbai. She said it was built as a tribute to Jawaharlal Nehru.
