Sunny Deol makes a glorious comeback! ‘Gadar 2’ creates history at box-office, earns over Rs 40 cr on Day 1

Gadar 2’, the much-anticipated sequel to the 2001 blockbuster ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’, and the comeback vehicle for leads Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel have set the box-office on fire.

According to a report shared by the Indian box-office tracking portal Sacnilk.com, the movie has emerged as one of the highest grossers this year, earning Rs 40 crore on the first day of its release. ‘Gadar 2’ is predicted to mint around Rs 45 crore on the second day. If it manages to do so, it will cross Rs 85 crore at the box-office!


The movie managed an overall occupancy of over 60 per cent on day one, while the night shows enjoyed a spectacular 85 per cent occupancy.

Another box-office tracking website Box Office Worldwide has predicted that the movie may mint over Rs 115 crore over the weekend if it can keep up the momentum!

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan was all praise for the movie. "Dhai kilo ka haath equals chalis cr ki opening. Sunny paaji is killing it. Congrats to the entire team of Gadar 2," wrote the 'Dabangg' actor.

Trade analyst Komal Nahta took to Twitter to gush about the movie. “Gadar 2’ is not a film, it’s a celebration, an emotion that touches the heart of every Indian. No wonder it’s ruling the box-office like no film has ruled after ‘Pathaan’ this year! Its opening is HISTORIC in many places! Await my detailed review. But if you may, watch the film even before that,” he wrote.

In contrast, ‘OMG 2’, a social satire starring Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi, and Yami Gautam had a more modest opening day figure - Rs 9.50 crore.

About ‘Gadar 2’

Helmed by Anil Sharma, ‘Gadar 2’ is a direct sequel to the 2001 action-romance ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha.’. The story revolves around a father-son relationship. Set in the backdrop of the 1971 ‘Crush India’ campaign, the movie sees Tara Singh, a Sikh travel to Pakistan to rescue his son Chiranjeet ‘Jeete’ Singh who is imprisoned by the Pakistani Army under Major General Hamid Iqbal.
