In a heartwarming gesture, former Indian cricket captain Sunil Gavaskar recently visited Sachin Railway Station in Surat, Gujarat, evoking fond memories and garnering reactions from fans and cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.

Gavaskar, 74, shared a photo on Instagram, cheekily expressing his delight at being at a railway station named after his "favourite cricketer and, more importantly, favourite person" - Sachin Tendulkar.

The image captured Gavaskar posing at Sachin Railway Station, pointing towards its name, with a caption that reflected his enthusiasm during the visit.

In the post, Gavaskar lauded the foresight of those from the last century who named the station, giving a nod to the unique connection between the station and the iconic cricketer.

Tendulkar, not one to let an opportunity pass, responded, saying, "Your words mean a lot, Gavaskar sir. Happy to see that the weather at Sachin is Sunny!"

The post shared a day ago, has already garnered over 77,000 likes, with fans expressing their excitement and sharing anecdotes in the comments section. One user humorously noted, "What are you doing there? Only local trains have stopped there, not express trains. It's a small station." Another commented on the irony, "Sunil Gavaskar the great is at a railway station in India, and people around are not aware who they are with."

Contrary to popular belief, Sachin Railway Station wasn't named after the cricket maestro; instead, it's linked to the village of Sachin in the Surat district. The village, now an industrial hub, has contributed significantly to the region's growth and development.

In a similar vein, the visit to Sachin Railway Station brought back memories of Sunil Gavaskar's illustrious cricketing career. The first player to reach 10,000 runs in Test matches, Gavaskar's legacy has endured through the years, with his influence extending beyond the cricket field.

The camaraderie between Gavaskar and Tendulkar is well-known, and Tendulkar had previously expressed regret about not getting the chance to play alongside his batting hero. Both cricketers went on to lift the World Cup for India - Gavaskar in 1983 and Tendulkar in 2011.
