Last week turned out to be special for the multiple trusts–some over 130 years old— that own one of India’s biggest conglomerates. For the first time, all three gen-next members, children of the patriarch’s half-brother, were invited to attend the quarterly review meeting at which trustees gather to take stock of affairs. The trio have already been inducted into some of the trusts—that happened earlier in the year—but to see them with their father and uncle was a refreshing sight for many. Some old faces apparently looked glum, though, perhaps because rising through the ranks may have just gotten harder. Blood, as we know, is thicker than the proverbial life-giving fluid.
