This it couple has everything going for them ever since the pandemic put the family flagship in the global limelight. Billions in the bank, houses around the world, horses and hounds and anything ritzy you can think of in between. Right after buying one of the fanciest addresses in tony London for the missus, there was chatter building up about another prize being picked up by the gentleman in the same zip code: A marquee hotel, the fortunes of which have faded, much like the Indian billionaire who once owned it before a grand fall. Turns out it’s been a family favourite for decades, and after changing hands a few times, it now has owners from West Asia but badly needs a few hundred million quid for a much-needed refurbishment. Even while they were partying with the family of one of the world’s richest men–a retailer of repute-turned-cloud computing-czar turned-media owner–before jetting off to the Caribbean during the New Year weekend, backroom negotiations were ongoing in full swing. Those talks didn’t lead to a deal but we all know big boys love fancy toys.
