Having a sounding board or a confidante is essential, since it’s really lonely at the top. Some have classmates, some rely on their CFOs or maybe even a mentor who has gone through a similar professional journey. Some hire top coaches for leadership training. But this softspoken chairman is apparently taking soundings from a palmist before taking key decisions, something that’s caught well-wishers and associates by surprise. The oracle in question, a former banker, has a somewhat colourful reputation with multiple side hustles, say those who know him. Until recently, the key role had been played by a confidant, who also found himself on a few boards. Since then, the chatter over this blossoming new partnership has been getting louder.
