DPP-4(or OPP-IV) inhibitors or Gliptins DPP-4 inhibitors lower blood glucose levels by allowing more insulin to be released in the body. The digestive tract has hormones that get released when we eat. They go to pancreas and instructs beta cells to produce insulin.
One of the hormones - GLP-1 - is quickly destroyed by enzyme DPP-4 which is fine for non- diabetics, but with someone suffering from type 2 diabetes, this prevents them from getting more insulin into their blood. The DPP-4 inhibitors prevents the enzymes from destroying GLP-1.
GLP-1 Mimetics (lncretinMimetics) Incretin mimetics focuses on the effect of GLP-1 hormone. The DPP-4 destroys GLP-1 hormone, hence a synthetic version of GLP-1 is created.

DPP-4 enzymes do not attack GLP-1 mimetic because it does not recognise that as naturally occurring GLP-1 and hence pancreas produce more insulin.
