Sudha Murty, founder-chairperson of Infosys Foundation and wife of Indian billionaire businessman Narayana Murthy, is an inspiration to many. The author and philanthropist often shares her quirky anecdotes and delightful experiences on love and life, which often go viral on social media. But do you know, there is another lesser-known side to the 75-year-old? She is a true-blue dog-lover. No, we are not making the claims. Sudha has revealed it herself in a latest interviews. Besides expressing her fondness for the furry animals, she has also urged Bengaluru residents to treat street dogs with compassion.

Sudha Murty’s simple yet powerful advice on caring for street dogs

Sudha Murty recently attended a podcast hosted by the Bengaluru police, where she talked about her own pet Gopi as well as urged everyone to treat dogs with gentleness, since they are a part of the family. When the host wanted to know Sudha’s advice to Bengaluru residents about street dogs, she had the perfect response.

According to Sudha Murty, the first step towards taking care of a street dog was to be kind towards these animals. She urged everyone not to throw stones at them and feed them spicy or unsuitable leftovers. The Rajya Sabha member advised people to keep aside some extra rice or bread if they wished to give food to the canines. Additionally, Sudha encouraged people to welcome the animals into their homes in case of inclement weather. She even recommended that everyone collaborate with the local authorities and sterilise street dogs to control the population.

Teaching compassion: Sudha Murty on why love matters

Sudha Murty rightfully pointed out that dogs are the only animals that can give their life for you when you show them even a morsel of affection. ‘More than food, they require love. If you give a piece of bread or a handful of rice to a dog, they will give their life for you,’ she stressed. While adopting street dogs was one way to offer them safety and a permanent home, Sudha acknowledged that one can support the animals by simply showing everyday compassion.

As per Sudha Murty, children must be taught compassion towards animals. She emphasises the need for parents to take their kids to dog shelters and bond with the animals there, if not adopt. For the unversed, Sudha owns a pet dog herself, whom she lovingly calls Gopi. She admitted that the adorable canine has become a star in Bengaluru, drawing attention during public appearances. Sudha has also penned several books on Gopi.
