SRK rules over 2023 as 'Jawan' & 'Pathaan' become Google India's most-searched films this year; Shahid Kapoor’s 'Farzi' tops OTT list

In a year that witnessed the Indian film industry setting the box office ablaze, Google India's 'Year in Search 2023' reveals the top entertainment searches that captured the nation's curiosity. Superstar Shah Rukh Khan took center stage, dominating both the box office and Google's trending searches with his releases, 'Pathaan' and 'Jawan.'

Shah Rukh Khan's Cinematic Victory

SEK's cinematic prowess reached new heights in 2023, making history with the monumental success of 'Pathaan' and 'Jawan.' While 'Pathaan' initially shattered box office records, it was quickly overshadowed by the September release of 'Jawan,' which claimed the top spot in local film searches and ranked third globally in Google's year-end roundup.

'Jawan,' directed by Atlee, became the most searched Indian film and the third most Googled movie globally, following only 'Barbie' and 'Oppenheimer.'


This action thriller, grossing over Rs 1160 crore worldwide, captivated audiences with its compelling narrative and stellar performances, solidifying its place in history.

Not to be overshadowed, SRK's 'Pathaan,' co-starring Deepika Padukone and John Abraham, became the first film to surpass Rs 650 crore in global box office earnings. Despite mixed reviews, the spy thriller garnered a lifetime worldwide gross of Rs 1055 crore, securing the tenth position on the global search list.

Adding to the star-studded line-up, Sunny Deol's 'Gadar 2' earned its place on the global search list, ranking eighth among the most searched movies of 2023.

Shahid Kapoor's Farzi Leads OTT Trends

The digital landscape saw its own triumphs, with Shahid Kapoor's 'Farzi' claiming the top spot in Google's OTT search trends. The list also featured other popular shows like 'Wednesday,' 'Asur,' and 'Rana Naidu,' reflecting the diverse and evolving preferences of Indian audiences.
