Aryan was arrested in October 2021, for alleged drug abuse. Wankhede was leading the investigation then. The former was granted bail after 25 days. Although a narrative of him being a drug addict was planted by the investigation, it was soon found that Aryan had no drugs on his person and was “deliberately targeted.”
Based on the reports of an investigation conducted by a special enquiry team led by the NCB’s current deputy director general Gyaneshwar Singh, an FIR was lodged against Wankhede, former superintendent of police of NCB Vishwa Vijay Singh, intelligence officer Ashish Ranjan, Kiran Gosavi and Sanville D’Souza, alleging them of trying to extort money from the superstar and his family, in lieu of issuing Aryan a clean chit.
An unnamed source told the entertainment portal that Rs 25 crore was demanded by the Gosavi and D’Souza at the behest of Wankhede, which is why the investigation agency has approached the Khans. Wankhede had denounced the allegations, citing them as "blatantly false." He also submitted messages sent to him by Khan, requesting him to let Aryan free.
On the work front, SRK was last seen in the blockbuster ‘Pathaan’. Also starring Deepika Padukone and John Abraham, the espionage thriller went on to become the highest-grossing Hindi film, minting over Rs 1000 crore at the global box-office. He will next be seen in another action thriller ‘Jawan’. The film marks the Bollywood debut of Telugu star Nayanthara. Khan would reportedly essay a double role in the film. Aside from ‘Jawan’ he would also star in Rajkumar Hirani’s social comedy ‘Dunki’.
