'Squid Game 2' release date: Seong-Gi-hun returns for round 2 of deadly challenge

The countdown for ‘Squid Game 2’ has begun! Netflix Korea delighted fans with a brand new teaser for the highly anticipated second season of ‘Squid Game’. The clip was revealed during Netflix's annual Geeked Week fan event. The video revisits the conclusion of Season 1, where Seong Gi-hun (portrayed by Lee Jung-jae) abandons his plan to travel to the U.S. and embarks on a new mission with renewed resolve. In the brief clip, he's shown wearing his uniform once again, surrounded by a group of new participants.

The video then showed viewers inside the Squid game venue and the players getting ready to start a new round of tasks that might mean the difference between life and death. Wearing his blazer bearing the number "456," Seong Gi-hun was another one of the attendees.

When Will ‘Squid Game 2’ Release?

Netflix has revealed that ‘Squid Game’ 2 will premiere on December 26, the day after Christmas.

Three years after Seong Gi-hun's intense and chaotic triumph in the initial season, the story picks up with his decision to reenter the sinister competition, this time with a clearer sense of resolve. Choosing not to pursue his earlier intentions of heading to the United States, Seong Gi-hun plunges once more into the deadly contest, joining a fresh group of participants all battling for the massive reward of 45.6 billion won.

The series was once again directed, written, and produced by Hwang Dong-hyuk. Along with Lee Jung-jae, Wi Ha-jun, Gong Yoo, and Lee Byung-hun will also be reprising their roles. Si-wan, Park Gyu-young, Kang Ha-neul, Lee Jin-uk, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, Jo Yu-ri, and Won Ji-an are among the new cast members. Squid was executive produced by Kim Ji-yeon and produced by Firstman Studio.
