Specially-abled UP girl, who was declared 'born dead', wins Rs 12.5 lakh in KBC

1975 was an exceptionally good year for Amitabh Bachchan. Among the blockbusters that he delivered that year, Yash Chopra’s 'Deewaar' went on to become one of his most iconic performances.

Written by Salim-Javed, the film told the story of two brothers (Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor) who find themselves on two opposite sides of the law.

Seen as one of Indian cinema's most iconic films, 'Sholay' saw Amitabh Bachchan essay the role of Jai. Ramesh Sippy reportedly wanted to cast Shatrughan Sinha to play the part, before it went to the Big B, who is said to have lobbied hard to get the role.

Written by Salim-Javed, the film followed the life of Veeru and Jai (Dharmendra and Bachchan) and also featured Sanjeev Kumar, Amjad Khan, Hema Malini and Jaya Bhaduri.

It was also a personal milestone for the actor, who married his on-screen love interest Jaya Bhaduri during the making of the film.

The movie was ranked first in the British Film Institute's 2002 poll of 'Top 10 Indian Films'. In 2005, it was also named the Best Film of 50 Years by Filmfare.

In 2009, Amitabh Bachchan won hearts once again with his portrayal of a 13-year-old boy suffering from Progeria. R. Balki's heart-warming film saw Bachchan play Auro - a fun-loving, school-going teenager suffering from the rare disorder. The film tells the story of Auro and his relationship with his father (Abhishek Bachchan) and mother (Vidya Balan).

The then-67-year-old Bachchan would sit for four hours for the prosthetic makeup to get in character before the shoot, and another 2 hours to take it off.

The movie went on to win not just hearts but also awards, with the Big B bagging a National Award for his performance.
