South star Meena’s husband Vidyasagar dies of lung ailment; Khushbu, Venkatesh & Sarath Kumar express grief

The southern film industry woke up to devastating news on Wednesday. Popular actress Meena’s husband Vidyasagar passed away due to lung-related ailment.

According to reports, the 48-years-old was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chennai. Following his death, several Southern celebrities such as superstar Rajinikanth, Sarath Kumar, Khushbu Sundar, and Venkatesh Daggubati expressed condolences. Apart from the noted stars, several film-makers and technicians were seen visiting Meena's residence.

Meena, who is widely known across Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada industries, married the Bengaluru-based businessman in 2009. Vidyasagar is survived by his wife Meena and their daughter Nainika.


Superstar Rajinikanth, who has acted with the actress in multiple films, visited her home to offer his condolences.
Actor-turned-politician, Khushbu Sundar said that she was heartbroken to learn about the news. The actress took to Twitter to express her grief. Khushbu said that Vidyasagar was battling lung ailments for a long time.

“Waking up to a terrible news.Heartbroken to learn actor Meena's husband, Sagar, is no more with us. He was battling lung ailment for long. Heart goes out to Meena and their daughter Nainika. Life is cruel. At loss of words to express grief. Deepest condolences to the family.”
Meanwhile, Telugu superstar Venkatesh said that he was saddened by the news. "Extremely sad and shocked by the demise of Vidyasagar gaaru! My heartfelt condolences to Meena gaaru and the entire family! Wishing them with all the strength to sail through this!” tweeted Venkatesh.
The 45-year-old actress has received several awards and accolades during her career. Filmfare Awards South, Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, two Nandi Awards, and Kalaimamani Awards are some of her notable achievements.

Meena made her debut as a child artiste in the Tamil film ‘Nenjangal’ in 1982. She later went on to star as the main lead in numerous films. Meena is among the few stars who have worked with mainstream superstars across South Indian Cinema. Meena was last seen alongside superstar Rajinikanth in ‘Annaatthe’ and in ‘Drishyam 2’ opposite Malayalam superstar Mohanlal.
