Rao recreates Dada's iconic 2002 look
Sourav Ganguly’s biopic is one of the most anticipated films this year. The producers of ‘Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story’, recently shared the film’s first look poster on the cricket icon’s birthday. The release date of the much-awaited movie was also revealed - ot would hit the big screens in May 14, 2027.

The poster paid homage to one of the milestone’s in Ganguly’s life and one of the most iconic moments in cricket pop culture - of him (played by an intense Rajkummar Ra) waving his shirt from the Lord's balcony after India's NatWest Trophy win over England in 2002.

That unforgettable gesture has since become a symbol of India's fearless approach and the transformation of the national team during Ganguly's tenure as captain. Widely regarded as a defining image of a new era in Indian cricket, the celebration continues to hold a special place in the hearts of fans.


Dropping the poster of the film on his Instagram handle, the cricket icon wrote: “The Best Gift Ever! Can’t wait to see you play my cover drive! @rajkummar_rao (sic).”

Named ‘Dada’ and helmed by director Vikaramaditya Motwane (best known for the romantic drama Lootera), the film will explore Ganguly’s rise from a young ambitious cricketer to one of the titans of cricket.

Actor Tanya Maniktala has been cast as Dona Ganguly, the wife of Sourav Ganguly, in the forthcoming biographical film. The movie is expected to explore the couple's personal journey alongside Ganguly's cricketing career, with reports suggesting that parts of their relationship will be depicted through a specially choreographed musical segment.

To ensure the film reflects its Bengali roots with greater realism, the makers have assembled a strong supporting cast from the Bengali film industry. Veteran actor Aparajita Adhya will portray Ganguly's mother, Nirupa Ganguly, while acclaimed performer Saswata Chatterjee has been chosen to essay the role of his father, Chandi Ganguly. Several other Bengali actors have also joined the project in key supporting roles, adding depth and cultural authenticity to the narrative.
