Former Indian cricket captain and CAB(Cricket Association of Bengal) President Sourav Ganguly cuts an Instagram-shaped cake.
NEW DELHI: Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly who turned 47, on Monday, left fans delighted as he increased his social media presence, joining Instagram.
The Padma Shri recipient was till now active on Facebook, where he has over 600,000 followers, and Twitter, with 4.12 million followers.
The 'God of off-side', now on the photo-sharing platform as @souravganguly, in his first post shared a picture cutting a birthday cake shaped as the site's logo. "As I turn another year older today, I want to make this a year where I give back to my fans. So here’s to birthdays and new beginnings !" he captioned the post.
Through Instagram, the former cricketer aims to engage with young fans by sharing valuable insights on cricketing events and encourage them to join causes close to his heart. In an official statement, Ganguly said, "Reinvention is constantly required in cricket, as it is required in life. From leading India on the field, to commentary, to advising an IPL team, to now joining Instagram, I continue being connected with people who're passionate about this amazing sport."
At the time of writing this, Dada - as he's fondly known - had amassed 53.3k followers, and was following only 6 accounts including Harbhajan Singh, Virender Sehwag, Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan apart from ICC and Team India's official handles.
